Dear Park Patrons,
We have received a question regarding the composition of the turf in the dog parks. The notice below regarding the hydroseed used in the parks is from the Park Superintendent of the City of Orange. If a dog owner is concerned about the eating behavior or health of their pet, please contact your veterinarian.
"To Whom It May Concern,
There was not a special "Ingredient" used in the preparation of the soil or application of the grass seed. The seed was applied by a process known as Hydroseeding which is simply cellulose pulp material mixed with water, a binding agent and the seed and fertilizer. Any of the materials used in that process would have deteriorated or leached out weeks or months prior to the area being opened for use by the dogs. I am familiar with dogs digging and eating grass, it isn't uncommon. I would recommend that the dog in question be examined by a veterinarian to determine if there is any causal connection, though I doubt that is the case. The turf areas of the Dog Park contain no amendments that are not present in other turf areas throughout the City Parks system or in an average back yard, for that matter.
Please contact me if I can be of any further assistance.
