General Updates........................................................................................................... Sandy Norell

1.      New Memberships:  04-15-06 – 05-19-06

There were a total of 46 new members for this reporting period for a grand total of 608 members.  The Board of Directors continues to staff a membership table each weekend at the Dog Park (weather permitting) to answer questions, enroll new members, and raise funds for the park.  Please email us via the www.orangedogpark.com site if you are interested.

2.      Ralphs Club Card Registered:  As of May 20, 2006, there were 68 Ralphs cards activated.  On June 1, 2006, there will be a total of 107 registrations.  Payments are made quarterly to the ODPA and we can expect a check on or about July 1, 2006.  To ensure that your purchases are being properly credited to the ODPA, there should be message at the bottom of your receipt that reads:  Thanks for giving to your community.  There is also an 800 number that you can call to obtain your card number if you use your phone number at the store.  The number is on the application (1-800-660-9003).

3.      Membership Renewal Drive:  600 membership renewal letters were sent out and to date, 99 have been returned.  The ODPA wants to publicly thank Tom and Patty Moore for their generous donation that covered the expense of this mass mailing.

4.      Orange City Council Meeting:  The ODPA will update the City Council on May 23, 2006, at 4:00 pm on the current status of membership and operation of the dog park.  An email announcement went out alerting members to the meeting, and we encourage members to come to the meeting and wear your ODP T-shirts.

Secretary’s Report:.................................................................................................... Sandy Sladen

The 04-15-06 Membership Meeting Minutes are posted on the website at

www.orangedogpark.com

Treasurer Report:................................................................................................. Margaret Manson

The current treasurer’s report is available on the information table.  As of May 20, 2006, ODPA has a balance of $10, 533.01, and the first of four payments have been made to the city in the amount of $2,573.20.

Old Business:................................................................................................................ Sandy Norell

1.      Weekend Info Table

The weekend table membership and information has been very successful.  As requested by members, the ODPA will continue to do this as often as possible.

2.      Signage

The Board will be installing “Off Leash Beyond This Point” and “On Leash Beyond This Point” signs for the gates of each section of the park.  It is very important that park users keep their dogs leashed until inside the entry pen and to unleash them before entering the park.  This is critical for safety of people and dogs.  The “grace” period has passed, and the dog park will be patrolled by Orange County Animal Control officers.  Offenders who do not have their dogs on leash while outside the park will be ticketed.

3.      Fund Raising

The fundraiser at Rubio’s Restaurant on April 24 brought in about $80 to the ODPA.  Other restaurant fundraisers are being considered, such as Islands.  There will also be fund raising at the June celebration to mark the first anniversary of the dog park.

Comments/Questions:

Suggestions for park promotion

Ø      Many dog park users are unaware that the city does not cover all the cost of the park.  It was suggested that a sign be posted providing this information and requesting donations.

Informational Presentation:

Animal Ambulance presented information about their services.  In addition, they demonstrated animal CPR and discussed basic first aid for dogs, emphasizing caring for dogs in hot weather and the appropriate handling of injured pets.

Next Membership Meeting:

June 17, 2006 at 9:00am.  This will be special celebration marking the one-year anniversary of the dog park.  There will be fun, information, vendor booths and give-away prizes.
