Examiner.com Orange dog park is the place to play April 15, 1:24 PM By CINDI SHERER Santa Ana Pet-friendly Places Examiner Spending an hour or two at the dog park can provide a wonderful playtime activity for you and your beloved canine companion. The Orange Dog Park is directly off the 55 freeway at Chapman Avenue and Yorba Street and is located in the southwest corner of Yorba Park. Two separate areas are available, as one provides a tree-lined play space for smaller dogs and the other offers plenty of room to run for larger breeds. While the park is open from 7am until dusk (with the exception of Wednesdays when the park is closed for maintenance), the most optimum times to visit with your pet are in the early morning on the weekends, or from opening until early afternoon during the week. High peak times are in the afternoon, when the park can become overly crowded with owners and dogs trying to work off their reserves of high energy. During quieter times, the space can be a nice way to relax while your dog investigates the area, though responsible owners should keep an eye on their pets at all times in order to prevent behavior issues and quick removal of droppings. Benches placed under the large trees offer a shady spot to rest and meet other dog lovers or catch up on some light reading. Dogs and their owners can also take advantage of the space to play fetch, as recent park visitor Judy and her three-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Gigi demonstrated. Your dog may also find new friends to play chase with as there are dogs of all sizes and energy levels that frequent the park.
